Welcome to the online version of the Miss-Hits Coach Workshop.
We’ve set it up so that coaches and teachers from all over the world can access the Miss-Hits course without having to travel.
The programme consists of 12 sessions – split into 2 blocks of 6 – and provides all of the content, teaching tips and equipment needed to create a fun, stimulating starter tennis experience for girls age 5-8.
Miss-Hits aims to make the transition into Mini Tennis a smooth and simple one for girls by:
- creating a group of friends
- developing coordination skills
- introducing the main tennis shots through the 6 Miss-Hits characters
What is the criteria for taking the Miss-Hits course?
Miss-Hits is for tennis coaches, other sports coaches, teachers, students, or just an ability to work with children AND a lot of enthusiasm. An authority to work with children in your country is required too.
The tennis coaching pathway can open up a new career, for supplementing income, and just lots of fun!
There are many different levels of coaching courses which will provide you with the knowledge to teach players of all ages and abilities.
For tennis coaches, if you’d like to take that first step on the coaching journey we would ask you to contact the governing body for tennis in your country where you will find all the information relevant to yourself.
- for the UK it is the LTA https://www.lta.org.uk/coach-teach/coach-development/coaching-pathway/
- for the USA – it is the USTA – https://www.usta.com/en/home/coach.html
The International Tennis federation (ITF) also have a course which may be of interest http://en.coaching.itftennis.com/courses/play-tennis.aspx
There is also the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR), an international organisation of tennis teachers and coaches.
The authorisation to work with children may be a part of a coaching qualification or it may be a process which you have to undertake independently.
As with the coaching qualification we would ask that you contact the governing body or employer in your country for details of the process, or contact local government or council.
In the UK here is the information from the governing body:
The LTA wants to ensure that all , young people and adults at risk are safe from harm and have an enjoyable tennis experience. We adhere to national safe recruitment procedures, which means people wanting to work in regulated activity with , young people or adults at risk are required to undertake an Enhanced DBS check and/or Barred List check. Information held by the Scottish Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme (PVGS) will also be revealed on a DBS check.
A DBS check is a record of all warnings, reprimands, cautions and convictions obtained from local and national police records. Chief Police Officers may also choose to disclose information that they reasonably consider might be relevant to the role.
